MAGIC Project Minka Ribbon Cutting and Open House: Wednesday, October 24, 2018, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Location: Outside area between Red Mango entrance of Forum Wing and the Education Center MAGIC stands for Multi-Ability, multi-Generational Inclusive Communities, and it is a concept pioneered by senior living innovator Dr. Bill Thomas. This past year, Dr. Thomas and his team have led a collaboration among USI students, faculty and community to create new ways of thinking about intergenerational housing and relationships and to plan for the construction of a model Minka "tiny house" on the USI campus. The Minka blends centuries-old Japanese construction techniques with robot-driven manufacturing tools and innovative technology to create housing that meets the specific needs of the people who live in them. Wednesday's program will include remarks from Dr. Ronald Rochon, USI President; Dr. Bill Thomas; Dr. Ann White, dean of USI's College of Nursing and Health Professions; and Addison Pollock, associate state director of Advocacy and Outreach at AARP Indiana. The project is being financially underwritten through the USI Foundation with additional support from AARP, which has been a strong supporter of the work of Dr. Bill Thomas.
