Reeya Vyas took advantage of college by embracing life outside her comfort zone. As an undeclared major, she took classes she thought she wouldn’t enjoy. She wanted a job that would allow her creativity to shine while grounding her in practicality. By letting go of preconceived notions and heeding the advice of her professors, she took a marketing class that led to a change of major and the Romain College of Business’s new social media lab, where she is the assistant lab coordinator. Her focus in the lab has been on developing content and strategy, following trends in social media, tracking user behavior, scheduling video shoots, and assisting with filming in the studio. She used her graphic arts minor in designing the graphics that are used on the College’s social media channels. Not content to sit back, she pushed herself further by joining the Speaking Eagles Toastmasters. “I’ve always had a fear of public speaking. Now I tell myself, this is only three to five minutes of your life, you can do this. This has been good practice for getting out of my comfort zone.” She looks forward to her unfolding story as she graduates this fall. As a Reflection Speaker at Commencement, she’ll share lessons about letting go, and seeing where life takes you.
