There are five active student members on the UNITE CubeSat team: Wyatt Helms '19, Ryan Loehrlein '19, Zack Snyder '19, Sujan Kaphle '19 and Nathan Kalsch '20.

The USI team received a $200,000 grant through the NASA Undergraduate Student Instrument Project and additional funding from the USI Engineering department, USI Endeavor Awards and the Indiana Space Grant Consortium.

The UNITE CubeSat deployed from the International Space Station at a speed of 400 km with an expected lifetime more than 420 days.

USI’s CubeSat deployment coincides with the 61st anniversary of the nation’s first artificial satellite deployment, Explorer 1, in 1958.
