#USIGrad Christie Caballero-Ramirez always wanted to be a profession where she helped others. As a child she thought about marine biology or teaching, but decided upon nursing. She followed her dream to the Southern Indiana Career Technical Center, enrolling the the two-year in the Health Science Education program. Graduating from from SITC in 2014, she learned basic patient care skills, professionalism, and completed classes in advanced anatomy and medical terminology. "I completed a 12-week clinical internship where I achieved oer 150 hours on the labor and delivery unit at St. Vincent's and a local doctor's office. The program helped me make the transition into nursing school as well as the transition into college by upholding all students to a professional standard." She found mentors in the College of Nursing and Health Professions that helped to hone her clinical and leadership skills. She completed a leadership clinical last summer at St. Vincent's with the Chief Nursing Officer, Darcy Ellison which led to a job offer in labor and delivery, caring for mother's and babies postpartum.
