"Under Pressure, Not Overlooked"
Conner Perry, a student in Rob Millard-Mendez’s ART 104 Design in Materials course, designed “Under Pressure, Not Overlooked,” a sculpture made of recycled plastic and cement.
"My piece is meant to honor medical workers by showing what they are doing for the world during this pandemic,” says Perry. “I drew inspiration from the Greek titan Atlas, as he was thought to keep the world suspended and from falling into chaos. That is exactly what these workers are doing for the world right now. I also employed the use of recycled plastics from the devices used by medical workers during the COVID-19 pandemic to add another layer of depth to the piece. This way it had a true connection, and it was not only a representation of the efforts of the medical works but was part of it.”
