Emily Haines-BioChemistry, Lauren Johnson-Biology, John Behrens-Biology with Professor Jim Bandoli--In the summer of 2010, I will begin a systemic inventory of the vertebrates found on the USI land south of Broadway. This land, between 600 and 1000 acres, is being evaluated for the establishment of a multi‐hundred acre limited access area to serve as teaching/research preserve. Part of the evaluation process will require a determination of the flora and fauna currently existing in this area so that the preserve can be located in the biologically and geologically most valuable area. My research will concentrate initially on mammals, and will involve field observation, live trapping, identification, and museum techniques. A white‐tailed deer density study is planned for the winter.
