Summer Undergraduate Research 2010
Ann Libbert-Biology, Susan Ellsperman-Biology, Luke Maurer-Biology with Professor Eric McCloud--I am broadly interested in physiological and community ecology. Students working with me have done projects in the areas of chemical ecology of plant‐herbivore interactions, soil ecology, and the symbiotic relationships between fruits, frugivores, and fruit parasites. Applications of work in our laboratory also include medicinal properties of plant extracts. Current projects in our laboratory include studies of the antiviral properties of plant extracts. Work to evaluate environmental, genetic, and biochemical influences on the antiviral properties in currently ongoing. An additional project in our laboratory involves examining the effects of ergot alkaloid producing plant symbiotic fungus on belowground communities. Finally, we are currently developing a project involving the behavioral ecology of harvestmen, or daddy longlegs.
